US says two naval ships ‘transited’ Strait of Hormuz for mine-clearing

The Strait of Hormuz, between Iran and Oman, serves as a critical passageway for fuel, fertiliser and other good

The United States military command overseeing the Middle East, United States Central Command, has stated that two of its naval vessels successfully passed through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz — a claim that was quickly rejected by Iran.

According to CENTCOM, the two destroyers — USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy — transited the strait on Saturday and conducted operations in the Arabian Gulf.

The command said the mission was part of a broader effort to ensure that the waterway remains safe and free of sea mines allegedly deployed earlier by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

However, Iranian authorities swiftly denied the US claims, disputing both the presence and the activities of the American naval ships in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, through which a significant portion of global oil supply passes, making any military activity in the area highly sensitive and closely monitored.
